This paper seeks to contribute to understanding the conditions in which positivist idea was introduced in Turkey and focusing particularly on the influence of positivism on the Turkish sociology. These importation conditions and influences are closely related to the Ottoman-Turkish modenization process. At the end of the nineteenth century, positivism was considered by the Ottoman elites as a remedy to save the Empire while it was seen during the construction of the nation state by Republican ideologues as a analysis tool and ideology to shaping society. During these two periods, Auguste Comtes thought has not been imported as such but reinterpreted to be adapted to local conditions.
