The History of Folk Books Literature Read in Reading Saloons

In the introduction, the concepts of “kiraat majlis”, “narrative culture”, “written culture” and “folk books” are described and their historical interconnections are explained. Then the folk books read in “kiraat majlis” (occasion) for reading are introduced generally and classified according to their generic specialty: books of Islamic mysticism: Mavlid,Muhammediye, Ahmediye, Müzekki'n-Nüfus, Envarü'l-Aşıkîn..., books of fighting and heroism: Siret-i nebîs, maktels, Hz. Ali Cenknameleri, Hamzaname, Danişmendname, Battal Gazi Destanları...books of adventure: Antername, love stories: Yusuf and Zeliha, Varka and Gülşah. In progress, these books are classified chronologically, based on the centuries they were written. This is followed by brief data on the available manuscripts and print copies of each work and the theses and articles published about them. The article concludes with a general assessment of the folk books read in kiraat majlis.
