The Modern Turkish Literature in Balkans

Two hundred periodicals have been scanned in the course of this study as a means to shed light on publications concerning the New Turkish Literature within a time interval of about 140 years in between 1866-2005. Ten anthologies of Turkish literature have been published in this period. Moreover, more than a hundred boks have been translated. Among the New Literature writers of these publications, the most popular ones have appeared to be Namık Kemal, Abdülhak Hamid, Tevfik Fikret, Halid Ziya Uşaklıgil, Ahmed Hikmet, Halide Edib, Yakup Kadri, Reşat Nuri, Nazım Hikmet Orhan Veli, Fazıl Hüsnü, Melih Cevdet Anday, Aziz Nesin and Orhan Pamuk. At the same time, it has been observed that the contemporary Turkish literature was translated widely, read and examined in the Balkans. More than a thousand books were translated from nearly three hundred authors.
