The Main Trends of Turkish Story From the Beginning Until Today

The birth of modern story in Turkish literature goes back to the 19th century. The traditional stories that separated into the classical and the folk literatures were gradually replaced by their counterparts in the western literature starting from the second half of the 19th century. The old and new styles were intertwined within the body of the first products in parallel to the characteristic structure of the period. However, the strict definition of the direction of Turkish literature also influenced the direction of the story. By the end of the 19th century, one could talk about fundamental transformations within the genre. As such, the 19th and 20th centuries have witnessed various turning points in terms of the Turkish stories. The interval between the Tanzimat and the Republic are quite definitive in terms of the development of Turkish literature and the story. One needs to be well informed about this period in which the story was reborn as a genre in order to be able to rightfully evaluate the contemporary story and literature.
