Muhammad b. Pir Ali al-Birgivi (d. 981/1573) is a preeminent figure whose intellectual contributions to ethics, jurisprudence (fiqh), Sufism, and Arabic grammar (nahw) remain pivotal for both Ottoman and contemporary Islamic thought. This research establishes a comprehensive literature review by compiling scholarly and academic studies concerning al-Birgivi. The study systematically identifies his primary works, books authored about him, postgraduate theses, symposium proceedings, academic articles, and encyclopedia entries. This investigation was initiated upon the observation that existing literature lacks a holistic study encompassing all these thematic subcategories. The research involved an extensive survey of various databases, including the National Thesis Center (YÖKTEZ), the Center for Islamic Studies (İSAM), DergiPark, the Manuscript Institution of Turkey, specialized encyclopedia platforms, and Google Scholar. Furthermore, contemporary artificial intelligence tools were utilized as auxiliary instruments throughout the analytical process. By conducting this literature survey, we aimed to delineate al-Birgivi’s intellectual universe and categorize the specific disciplinary focus of existing scholarship. Consequently, this study elucidates both the current scholarly landscape and future research imperatives regarding al-Birgivi. A significant increase in the volume of academic output concerning the author has been noted in recent years. Additionally, this review identifies understudied works, thereby highlighting existing gaps in the literature for future researchers. We hope that this study will provide a substantial contribution to the ongoing scho-larly discourse on al-Birgivi.
