Memoirs and Travel Accounts as Political History Sources

Memoirs stem from the desires of sharing the life and experience with others, the fear of being forgotten, and facing the truths of the past. With these desires the writer of a memoir re-enacts the past by reviving the imprints that the events left in his/her mind. The memoirs, which appeared as a special genre in the XVI. century and became widespread thanks to the 19th century romantics, bear vital clues for our political history. Therefore, they are very significant sources that should not be ignored by scholars who are interested in history, politics, literature and sociology. In this context, the attached bibliography is an attempt to list the leading (Turkish) memoirs reached by the author.
