Kalam Education in Turkey

The only location of education for the disipline of kalām in the Ottoman Empire was the madrasa. The madrasa curriculum reflected the educational philosophy of the period. Despite some changes in the curriculum over time, there was no structural transformation overall. Many studies have been conducted on madrasa education in the Ottoman Empire, whereas the education of kalām has not been sufficiently covered. This article focuses on the scholarly basis that determined the understanding of education along with the status of kalām in the madrasa curriculum before and during the Ottoman Empire as well as reflecting on sources and modern studies conducted on the issue.
