Akaid-Kalam Literature from the Ottoman Empire to the Republican Era: A Conclusion From Figures, Sources and Traditions

Ever since its foundation, the Ottoman Empire, as an important representative of the Islamic intellectual heritage, carried the Islamic civilization further.By transforming the scientific discourse into a new composition, the Ottomans, together with their intellectual and political power, mobilized the scholarly production not only in Istanbul and Anatolia, but also over the entire Islamic geography. This paper aims to illustrate the thought of kalam, one of the fundamental elements of the Ottoman scholarly tradition, by focusing on the individuals, texts and traditions. In this light, after an overview of the historical and theoretical background of the Ottoman kalam, the writing styles, traditions and contextual properties are examined.
