The Translations of Classical Fıqh Sources in Turkey

This article provides a list of the classical fiqh and usul books in Arabic that were written until the time of Ibn Abidin (1252) and translated into Turkish in the Republican period. It aims to analyze these translations in terms of their style, method and translation technique. This list excludes the translations made in the Ottoman period, those book written in the Ottoman Turkish and latinized later as well as the translations of works written in the modern period. These three restrictions result from the difficulty of discussing all these subjects within the scope of a single article as well as from the difference between the classical and the modern works from the perspective of language and style. Hence the translations were evaluated in the light of the above-mentioned points with specific focus on some suggestions for the translation of the classical books of fiqh and usul.
