Hermeneuitics in Modern Turkish Thought

The process of the development of hermeneutics in modern Turkish thought can be divided into two periods. The first period consists of efforts to understand its own position against the positivist paradigm, which enforces a Western style of life. The second period covers the recent attempts that take hermeneutic approaches as the theoretical basis for developing new solutions against the problems related to the collapse of the positivist paradigm and the process towards a liberal structure of society containing multiple perspectives. The place of hermeneutic thought in our tradition demonstrates that as the impact of a positivist discourse gradually diminishes, a more productive setting will be available for ontological understanding.
