From İçtimaiyat to Sociology: Istanbul University Sociology Department

This paper aims to outline the history of Istanbul University's Sociology department, commonly called 'Istanbul Sociology' and its periodical named Sosyoloji Dergisi [Journal of Sociology]. It tries to give a short history of Istanbul Sociology and its periodical Sosyoloji Dergisi by outlining the background stories of the names that have been constituting the staff of Istanbul Sociology from its foundation up until now. In order to give a rough idea of the main streams and conventions that have been formed at Istanbul Sociology, studies recently done at the department plus the biographies of and the main works by those names have also been covered.
