The Tezkires of Poets: Indispendable Sources in Our Literature History

Tezkire, which is an Arabic word, means something that causes one to remember. The tezkires of poets are the biographic works collecting poets. They are basic to works of history of literature. A good many examples of tezkires, whose first examples are seen in Arab literature, are also given in the Persian and Turkish literature. The tezkires of poets were incessantly written between XVIth century and XXth century of the Turkish literature in the Anatolian area. Since poets and poetic books are also evaluated along with the lives and books of poets, in tezkires, these kinds of books also explain the poetics of the time. Since tezkires are generally written in a prose style with sadjh and rich in terms of literary arts, they also make up a medium for stylistic analysis.
