Tasavvuf Literature

Turkish mystical literature is one of the main branches of Turkish literature that developed after the conversion of Turks into Islam. However, it has not yet evolved into a separate discipline taught at the universities; instead, its representatives and products continue to be studied within the framework of Folk Literature and Ancient Turkish Literature. In fact, even the poet biographies of the Ottoman period (tezkires) did not really include the Sufi poets and writers as representatives of this literature. The past few years have witnessed a surge in the number of such academic works. When compared to other literary disciplines, however, their inadequacy is especially striking. This article aims to providing specialized information on not only the literature of this field, but also its entitlement, its place within the Turkish literature, its development, and first representatives. Moreover, in the final section, we specify our comments and evaluations on Turkish Mystical Literature.
